TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Lancaster. Saturday has a vintage fest, an Oktoberfest, a craft beer fest, a cider donut festival, a 5K through a vineyard, and a festival honoring an apple-throwing cryptid. You are going to have to make some choices.
In today's Lancaster Ledger:
• The city has a 10-year plan for tourism
• A Turkey Hill ticket just hit for $43,957
Let's do it.

Lancaster this weekend
Landis Communities runs two rental properties downtown, both built for 55+ living. Steeple View Lofts is a renovated historic building with loft-style apartments and a lot of original character. Landis Place on King is newer construction a few blocks away, and both put downtown's theaters, restaurants and music venues inside a short walk.
No driving, no parking, and a short walk home at the end of the night.
THE DIGEST
Lancaster city has a 10-year plan for tourism 🧭
Lancaster city released its first Tourism Master Plan this week, a 10-year strategy built around using tourism to drive economic development while keeping the benefits with residents and local businesses. It runs to 143 recommendations, everything from better wayfinding and small-business promotion to a new city brand, a new Welcome Center and a possible tourism management organization. It took about two years to put together, with input from more than 3,500 residents, business owners and visitors.
The city is phasing the work in as money and staffing allow, which is the part to watch. "It will be up to all of us to make sure that growth lifts up everyone and keeps Lancaster city the welcoming place it is today," Mayor Jaime Arroyo wrote in the plan.

Whoever has it gets one year from Wednesday to claim it. So check the center console, and check the jacket you wore Wednesday.

LANCASTER LEDGER IS POWERED BY UNCHARTED LANCASTER
America's secret mission began in Lancaster
"In the spring of 1803, a coded message from President Thomas Jefferson arrived in Lancaster. It was intended for a 28-year-old Army captain preparing for one of the most dangerous and consequential missions in American history. His name was Meriwether Lewis."
That is how the piece opens. It ran in full in the first Lancaster Ledger Quarterly, the envelope of Lancaster stories and stickers we mail out four times a year. It was written by Adam Zurn of Uncharted Lancaster, his guide to the strange, storied and hidden corners of the county. His new book, The Manheim Tragedy, is a restored and annotated edition of the 1858 account of a double killing near Neffsville and the trials and confessions that followed.
